Lipolysis and lipogenesis from glucose in human fat cells of different sizes. Effects of insulin, epinephrine, and theophylline.
Lipogenesis from glucose and lipolysis in human omental and subcutaneous fat cells were studied as functions of adipose cell size and number in adult females. Since subcutaneous fat cells were larger than those prepared from the greater omentum, a comparison could be made of the metabolism of different sizes of cells within individual subjects. Rates per cell of glyceride-glycerol and glyceride...
متن کاملMinireview: Lipid Droplets in Lipogenesis and Lipolysis
Organisms store energy for later use during times of nutrient scarcity. Excess energy is stored as triacylglycerol in lipid droplets during lipogenesis. When energy is required, the stored triacylglycerol is hydrolyzed via activation of lipolytic pathways. The coordination of lipid storage and utilization is regulated by the perilipin family of lipid droplet coat proteins [perilipin, adipophili...
متن کاملMammalian Target of Rapamycin Complex 1 Suppresses Lipolysis, Stimulates Lipogenesis, and Promotes Fat Storage
OBJECTIVE In metazoans, target of rapamycin complex 1 (TORC1) plays the key role in nutrient- and hormone-dependent control of metabolism. However, the role of TORC1 in regulation of triglyceride storage and metabolism remains largely unknown. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS In this study, we analyzed the effect of activation and inhibition of the mammalian TORC1 (mTORC1) signaling pathway on the...
متن کاملMechanism of the stimulatory action of okadaic acid on lipolysis in rat fat cells.
Okadaic acid was found to induce concentration- and time-dependent lipolysis in rat fat cells in the absence of lipolytic hormones, but it did not significantly increase the total hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) activity in these fat cells, the activity of HSL extracted from fat layer and that of HSL in the supernatant of homogenized fat cells. Western blotting of fat cell homogenate fractions w...
متن کاملA comparison of lipolysis and lipogenesis in sheep and rats
Hormone sensitive lipase is thought to be the rate-limiting enzyme of lipolysis; phosphatidate phosphohydrolase that of lipogenesis. Both these enzyme systems were studied in vitro with the addition of epinephrine. The results show that: (a) hormone sensitive lipase is four times more active in rat epididymal fat than in sheep tail fat and (b) sheep omental fat is twice as active as tail fat. (...
